Dan Brown is a senior technology executive with a wide range of technology, operational and senior leadership capabilities. As a strong leader, he has a proven track record of aligning technology organizations with corporate strategy, building / rejuvenating technology teams and leading organizations through growth and rapid change.

Dan has significant technology, software and operations experience primarily in the Financial Services, Software and Large Non-Profit spaces. Dan has managed large teams of 120+ as well as smaller entrepreneurial teams. Dan was awarded CIO of the Year in Georgia in 2010 and was a finalist for the Atlanta Technology Professional of the Year in 2012.

Dan develops technology strategy and architecture, implements effective technology solutions including mobile and cloud-based technology, develops and aligns the technology organization and manages large scale operations and technology infrastructure.

He also is a certified Executive Coach (by the International Coaching Federation), working with many C Level executives on extending and growing their personal and professional capabilities.

Prior to joining TechCXO, Dan was the CIO/Consultant for Becons Group where he served as an advisor and sounding board for key client initiatives, helped assess, clarify and develop technology strategy and technology organizational alignment. He also served as a business and executive coach with Sage Coaching.

He was Chief Information Officer and Chief Digital Officer for NCF, the 8th largest non-profit in United States ($1.7 billion in revenue in 2017). NCF is a major donor advised fund foundation that has operations in 20 states with 250 employees and affiliated members. He implemented a cloud first/mobile first strategy for the organization including implementing Salesforce for the organization’s funds management operations and customer relationship management/marketing capabilities and overhauled the Agency’s business intelligence systems. He implemented a strong information security program, reporting directly to the Board of Directors for this area.

Dan also served as CIO and Senior Vice President for CredAbility, a large non-profit Agency that performed counseling nationally for consumer debt, pre-foreclosure, housing and pre-bankruptcy services. CredAbility had operations in 30 locations in 5 states and national coverage by telephone and chat with 500 employees. Dan was responsible for strategic technology direction, technology business solutions, technology operations and software development for the Agency. He developed and implemented a three-year strategic roadmap for enhancing and overhauling the Agency’s technology, including web/e-commerce systems, call center processing, payment processing, business intelligence and counseling platforms. He was also responsible for implementing a strong technology security program.

As Senior Vice President – Enterprise Information Systems at SunTrust Bank, a top 10 US bank, Dan was responsible for enterprise architecture, software engineering, customer information systems, enterprise imaging/workflow, project management office (PMO) and data warehouse/business intelligence practices.

He led the bank-wide architecture group in business – technology strategy, developing and implementing technology architecture capabilities within and across many banking systems. He managed a portfolio of enterprise level projects, technology budget and divisional staff and led the delivery of business solutions through strong relationships with key line of business leaders.

Dan also led the IT organizational transformation effort at SunTrust, along with the senior IT team, moving to new organizational and work process structure. This was a complete change of how IT was structured and how it worked.

Under his leadership, SunTrust implemented Oracle Financials for the bank and made significant upgrades to the Peoplesoft ERP solution. He also improved the performance of the data warehouse and bank profitability system, implemented a new system for ATM and customer account identity, selected and implemented an anti-money laundering system and implemented data governance and data warehouse technology.

Earlier in his career, Dan served as Senior Vice President – Information Technology for Lendlease, a global funds management company, was the CIO for Compass Retail, a financial management firm for commercial real estate and was on staff with Andersen Consulting (now Accenture).

Dan has an MBA in Finance from Georgia State and a BA in Psychology from Covenant College.

Recent CTO Engagements

Dan has led these recent engagements:

CTO Consultant to COO and VP Information Technology – Funds Evaluation Group (FEG)

Assessed overall IT organization, current state technology and benchmarked IT against industry comparatives. Developed a three-year technology roadmap and launched a Technology Steering Committee for governing the roadmap.

Currently in full progress with year one initiatives of the roadmap, evaluating software options for investment portfolio management, risk management and client reporting – SS&C Black Diamond, Envestment Tamarac, Factset Portfolio Analysis, Solovis by eVestment, Caissa, Eikon by Refinitiv and Jacobi/Addepar.

Also evaluating full shift to cloud computing from local infrastructure.

CTO Consultant to CEO and CTO – Farmers National Bank

Assessed overall technology capability and technology leadership/organization for the bank. Working on IT organizational design, technology application strategy, technology steering committee, improving IT operations, and improving alignment with Senior Management and the Board of Directors. Also working with the Bank on their digital banking strategy.

Fractional CTO – Cables and Kits

As CTO, led the effort to redevelop C&K’s ecommerce platform working with the client’s team to select the BigCommerce SaaS platform for customer facing ecommerce site and worked with a web agency on redevelopment of the ecommerce site. Helped in the transition of a key senior developer as they left the organization and worked to implement an offshore development team. Improved the software development processes to be more aligned with Agile methodology and more productive for the organization.

Worked with several clients to coach and mentor the in-place CTO or VP of Information Technology. With a proven methodology, he has been successful in helping clients benefit from investing in their leader of technology, improving communication and interpersonal capabilities.
