Chris Skubic is a fractional CFO and M&A advisor who steps into technology companies when the financial and transaction complexity of the business has begun to outpace its leadership infrastructure.

The companies he works with are typically navigating a future transaction, integrating an acquisition, or building the financial foundation to support the next stage of growth. Chris works alongside leadership teams and boards to sharpen the financial picture, execute deals, and put the right systems in place.

He brings an unusual combination to that work. Chris began his career at Intel Corporation, where he executed venture investments and acquisitions through Intel Capital and co-founded two Intel-incubated businesses, including one of the earliest IoT platforms. He subsequently led corporate development for a $900 million division of Autodesk, managing a geographically dispersed team across acquisitions, minority investments, and global strategic partnerships. As President and CFO of Ruby+Solberg, he took operational control of a technology services company, drove revenue growth of 68% and operating margin expansion of 183%, and led a successful exit to a strategic acquirer.

Most recently, he served as Managing Director at Alkali Partners, a boutique technology-focused investment bank, advising founders and management teams on M&A, capital markets, and restructuring transactions. Earlier in his career, he worked as an industrial chemical engineer at Rhodia, giving him an operational foundation that predates his finance and transaction work.

A few representative outcomes:

  • At Ruby+Solberg, led the company as President & CFO from growth through a successful sale to a strategic acquirer.
  • At Autodesk, led the corporate development function of a $900M division across acquisitions, strategic partnerships, and minority equity investments in simulation, design, and cloud computing software.
  • At Intel Capital, executed venture investments in digital media, wireless communications, and enterprise software, and served as Board Observer across multiple portfolio companies.

Today, Chris focuses on growth-stage and middle-market technology companies. His work centers on strategic finance management, transaction preparation, M&A advisory and transaction execution, financial strategy and modeling, capital raising, and front-end due diligence. He is a co-founder of his own software company and holds two U.S. patents.

Chris holds an MBA and a Master of Operations Management from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management and McCormick School of Engineering, and a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of Notre Dame. Outside of work, Chris can be found running, fishing, golfing, or hiking with his wife Shelby and their five kids. He is based in Portland, Oregon.
