Todd Giacco walks into complexity, anticipates the problems that come with growth, strengthens the analytics, reporting, and infrastructure, and puts the company in position to grow without outgrowing its financial infrastructure.

Todd brings the rigor of large-company finance to growing businesses without pretending they are big companies. His point is not to build more process, but to put the right financial discipline in place for the company’s size, complexity, and ambitions. Across startups, private equity-backed companies, and Fortune 500 organizations, he has built finance and accounting teams and systems, improved forecasting and decision-making, raised capital, managed working capital, financial reporting and helped leadership teams navigate acquisitions, integrations, turnarounds, and exits.

At Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), Todd was on the front lines when growth became exponentially more complicated. He joined when ICE had roughly $150 million in revenue and helped build its financial planning, M&A and data analytics capabilities as the company grew to more than $7 billion in revenue. Todd ultimately led a global team of 38 finance professionals, worked on 35 completed acquisitions, helped deploy more than $30 billion in capital across acquisitions and strategic investments, and oversaw financial planning across a business that had expanded into exchanges, data and fixed income, and mortgage technology.

Growth at that scale required more than bigger spreadsheets. Todd helped build the infrastructure underneath it, including forecasting and reporting processes, ERP systems, a company-wide data warehouse, and a strategic analytics team that used customer and operating data to identify growth opportunities and improve pricing. He also helped establish a repeatable approach to acquisition valuation, diligence, and integration.

After 35 acquisitions at ICE, Todd knows that getting M&A deals done is only part of the job; you have to buy the right company at the right price, know what you’re getting, and have a plan to integrate it. Over time, that became the way ICE approached acquisitions.

More recently, Todd faced a different kind of complexity as CFO of Artisan Kitchens, a private equity-backed manufacturer dealing with working-capital and operating challenges. Working with the CEO, he focused on the fundamentals, from inventory, receivables, forecasting, and expense management to labor, material usage, equipment uptime, and waste. Inventory was reduced by more than 20%, profitability improved to a double-digit EBITDA margin, and the business was ultimately sold to a strategic buyer.

Todd also knows what it looks like when the finance and accounting function has to be built almost from scratch. As Vice President of Finance at software startup EZGOV, he helped create the financial infrastructure as the company grew from zero to approximately $30 million in revenue. He developed forecasting and financial processes, implemented an ERP system, supported fundraising, and spent time in Amsterdam rebuilding the company’s European finance and administrative operations. Todd and the CFO also developed an investor pipeline that produced more than $40 million in funding.

That range matters to Todd’s work with growth-stage companies today. At TechCXO, Todd works with early-stage and middle-market companies across technology and software, financial services, and manufacturing and industrial markets. His primary areas of expertise include financial planning and analysis, M&A and financial modeling, fundraising, working-capital management, financial strategy, and transaction support. Todd’s experience also extends beyond the traditional CFO remit, including accounting, HR, technology, risk, and legal, because at growing companies problems can be considerably less tidy.

Earlier in his career, he held finance leadership roles with Home Depot and Kimberly-Clark. He began his career in commercial banking with NationsBank, now part of Bank of America, where working with business borrowers gave him an early look at companies from the lender’s side of the table before he moved inside them.

Todd earned his MBA in Finance, Investments, and Strategic Management from the University of Georgia and earned his undergraduate degree in Economics and Psychology from Vanderbilt University.
