For years, TechCXO has been looking for ways to unlock more inbound leads for our fractional executives. We began examining our brand visibility in AI search to understand whether TechCXO appeared when prospective clients asked questions about problems we help solve. Search rankings and website traffic remain important measures, but now you can ask ChatGPT or Claude a question and receive recommendations about companies to consider without ever visiting a Google search results page.

We started using Brandi AI, a platform that tracks how companies appear in AI-generated answers, to see what prospective clients were learning about TechCXO. Early analysis showed that we weren’t appearing as consistently as we wanted around some of the conversations tied to our areas of expertise.

We have since used these AI search findings to inform our TechCXO’s marketing strategy and started bringing the same approach into client engagements.

What is Brandi AI, and how is TechCXO using it?

Brandi AI helps companies understand how they appear in AI-generated answers relative to their competitors, including which brands are mentioned or cited in response to questions relevant to their audiences.

At TechCXO, we use Brandi AI to identify questions relevant to our audience and see where our expertise appears in the answers. The platform also recommends questions to address and provides outlines to guide content development.

Traditional search engine optimization (SEO) remains part of our work. As we often remind clients:

“Don’t walk away from SEO. Augment it with GEO so you can see the conversations shaping how buyers find and evaluate you.”

What we look for in an AI visibility platform

Several platforms help companies understand how they appear in AI-generated answers. Profound offers visibility analysis alongside more technical capabilities, including AI crawler monitoring and automated content workflows. Semrush and HubSpot also offer AI visibility tools that marketers can incorporate into their existing marketing workflows.

As fractional marketing executives, we want to understand how AI is telling our clients’ stories. When a prospective buyer asks an LLM about a problem a client helps solve, we look at how the company’s expertise is described and which sources are shaping the answer. This helps us identify where its positioning or content needs more support.

Brandi AI’s approach resonates with us because it was developed with a marketing and communications perspective in mind. Its co-founder and CEO, Leah Nurik, comes from a public relations and marketing background. In an interview about storytelling and AI search, she explains how communications work influences the way AI describes a company.

Some platforms offer extensive technical capabilities but require more time to learn and navigate. We appreciate Brandi AI’s straightforward interface because it makes the analysis accessible to the marketers who need to use it.

We also value the flexibility of working directly with Brandi AI’s team. As we use the platform in our own marketing and introduce it into client engagements, we can share what we’re learning and provide input as the product develops.

What we changed to improve our brand visibility in AI search

When we identified gaps in TechCXO’s visibility, we used the findings to determine where our content and points of view needed more support. We reinforced those topics through thought leadership and LinkedIn, increased our attention to PR, and began developing more podcast and video content.

Brandi AI reporting showed an 853% increase in TechCXO’s GEO awareness and a 282% increase in domain citations. We moved from roughly sixth or seventh among the competitors tracked to first or second. During that time, we also saw stronger inbound leads, including an opportunity with a potential value exceeding $1 million.

We continue to monitor those results to understand where our visibility is improving and where additional work may be needed.

The same approach can help clients make decisions about their marketing priorities. One company came to us frustrated that its agency was producing content across roughly 20 topics. We went back to its ideal customer profile (ICP) and narrowed the focus to the four conversations the company actually needed to have with its buyers.

AI search intelligence adds another source of information to decisions like these. It helps us understand which conversations are taking place around a market and where a company’s expertise needs a stronger presence.
