A lifelong entrepreneur, Steve is recognized for novel product and business model innovation with a focus on cybersecurity, B2B software and communications. As a founder, CEO, investor and board member, he’s earned a reputation for building clever strategies and winning teams, driving accelerated growth, developing strong customer relationships and creating superior shareholder value.
In 2005, Steve was chosen from more than sixty Silicon Valley entrepreneurs to become the first Executive-in- Residence for National Information Communications Technology Australia, the nation’s foremost center for applied IT research. His role in creating a unique model for incubating start-ups fostered the development of a substantial intellectual property portfolio and spawned numerous companies including mobile security software spin-out, Open Kernel Labs.
As founder and CEO, Steve led OK Labs to become the first NSA-approved platform for enabling classified communications on commercial, off-the-shelf smartphones. Deployed by the Department of Defense, chipset suppliers, handset OEMs and mobile operators on more than 1.6 billion devices, the company was acquired by General Dynamics in 2012.
Prior, as a senior executive at venture-backed Mobius Management Systems, Steve drove the transformation of Mobius from $3 million in services to a NASDAQ IPO and perennial Gartner Magic Quadrant leader in enterprise content management systems.
Steve began his career with CA Technologies when it was a newly minted public company, becoming part of the leadership team that grew revenues over six years from $30 million to more than $1.2 billion.
Most recently, Steve was President and CEO for Comodo Cybersecurity, whose 25 products protect customers with tens of billions of virtual machines on more than 85 million endpoints across 193 countries. He is the Founding Partner of z2m4 Advisors, a management consulting firm for venture capital and private equity investors. Representative assignments include interim CEO – TempoIQ (acquired by BithGroup), interim CEO – Ubicquia (go-to-market, Series B financing) and Board Advisor – Kasada (US launch, Series A financing).
Steve is chairman of the Cyber Threat Intelligence Network and on the advisory board for Northwestern University’s Farley Center for Innovation. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing with a concentration in Computer and Information Technology from Miami University.
